Birthday Boy & A Long Weekend

After eleven days on a surf trip in Costa Rica, my favorite guy is back! And it couldn't be better timing -- he's a birthday boy! Wishing you a long and happy holiday weekend! Celebrations are in order!

Dog Days

Monday, August 19, 2013

The dog days are nearly over. During my early teens, I had a favorite summer routine: lazy summer days spent reading, dreaming, and sunning in my rectangular backyard, playing Counting Crows' "August and Everything After" on repeat for hours while painting my nails and toes my then-preferred shade of frosted pearl white (eep!), and dog-earing the latest Delia's catalog. I thought I'd wear that nail color forever and dream of a day that those clothes would be within reach.

While days, months, and years have subsequently passed, and I have changed with the seasons, a few things remain the same. My love for lazy summer days -- spent reading, dreaming, and sunning. I still have an embarrassing soft spot for Counting Crows and am instantly transported to my terrible teens on the rare occasions they grace the airwaves. I still believe that painting nails and magazines are the perfect match. In some ways, I feel that I've changed and that girl, those days, are just a distant memory. In others, I feel as though I have changed but am still the same. That I still am who I have always been. Just without the frosted nail polish.

Not Just Another Pretty Face

Wednesday, August 7, 2013

For years, I have liked Katy Perry. She is the queen of summer anthems, after all. But at times, I felt a bit fickle; hot and cold. This past weekend, I finally got around to watching Katy Perry: Part of Me. And I liked it. I liked it so much, I may have cried for most of the last thirty minutes. People are people, no matter who they are. Famous or otherwise, we all have feelings. And hearts. And the desire to connect with others. Clearly, her fan base reaches far and wide. Because of Katy, an astounding number of individuals have found a safe, creative, and often, colorful place to be their fabulous selves. She is a voice that has helped others find theirs. It's safe to say, I'm officially in her camp. And really want her glittery kitty mask.

Can't wait for her new album, Prism! It seems she's leaving her confection days in the dear, old dust.

And That's an Order

Dear August,

I don't know how you got here, but I won't argue. Please be nice. And keep that sun shining. Especially on the weekends.

xo,
C
