Link Love

Friday, May 31, 2013

So, it's been kind of busy. These last few weeks (okay, months!) have been full of deadlines, stress, and perhaps even a few tears. As always, yoga, sleep, and coconut ice cream has helped. The super sexy sunshine has too. And with the weekend in sight, I'm gold. Home stretch! I'm hoping for a bit of beach-going, gem-hunting, and dessert-making. Here are a few things making me happy lately.

+ I love succulents. But they don't always love me. Despite my repeat attempts and numerous victims, I haven't learned how to keep them alive for more than a few months. It's a little sad. Luckily, I recently discovered A Pair & A Spare's how-to for succulent care. Life saver. I think I'm ready to try again...and let a new succulent into my heart and home.

+  It's official. I'm smitten with this DIY Huntington Key Ring. Such an easy tutorial. I think it's in my future. The very near.

+  I love all animals. Especially goats. And I just can't get enough of this little guy and his sweet face.

+  I'm convinced I need this cozy space in my life. Anytime would be great, thanks.

+  Sometimes, I feel like I'm the only girl not watching New Girl these days. The phrase "adorkable" might have something to do with my aversion. But, their recent auto-tune gem has found a secret soft spot in my heart. I think we can agree on its greatness. #letsdothis

What are you loving lately? Happy weekend. We deserve it!

Happy Weekend

Friday, May 24, 2013

Growing up, Memorial Day Weekend meant one thing. Summer! After all these years, I feel the same. I've been such a busy bee at work lately, I feel all buzzed out! Luckily, I have big plans to recharge with a four-day weekend. Four! Those pesky furlough days had to have an upside! At this exact moment, I'm kind of grateful for them.

Hope you have a lovely one! I have dreams of sun, sand, and sea!

Striped Summer Sweets

Wednesday, May 22, 2013

I don't know about you, but I'm ready for summer. And need these fruity summer striped ice cubes in my life. Stat. I think a little project might be underway in my kitchen shortly. Yes, let's!

How are you getting ready for the summer season? Hopefully with these fruity beauties! I see you, Wednesday.

For J

Tuesday, May 21, 2013

This is for you. And me. In our sunny, sweet state. And seaside city. Dreaming of a super special summer full of sand, surf, seashells, sunscreen, and sorbetti. And, apparently a lot of words that start with "S."

Go Easy On Me

Tuesday, May 14, 2013

You guys. I don't know about you, but these past few weeks(okay, months!) have left me simply fried. I'm exhausted in every capacity and convinced that sweet sleep and the warm, bright sun are my only hopes for a much-needed recharge. I know what my weekend will entail!

It's interesting, and sometimes frustrating, how things come and go in waves. Well, I'm ready for this big, bad wave to stop. And let me catch my breath. To maybe catch the wave instead of being pounded by them. To be relieved from treading water for what feels like eternity. I just want to have some fun, you guys. Is that too much to ask? Sometimes, life with its layers, happenings, people, feelings, and emotional quicksand, is just plain too much. And I'm calling for a serious timeout. I refuse to have yet another sandy, sunny, summer season overwhelmed by others' stress and uncertainty. So we're taking it back. This is for me, for he, for us. And our kitties, too. It's only Tuesday, but I think Saturday should've arrived yesterday. Who's with me?

Ready, Set, Gatsby!

Friday, May 10, 2013

Dreams really do come true. To say I am eagerly anticipating "The Great Gatsby" would be an understatement. Husband and kitties can attest. My excitement nearly boiled over earlier this week after seeing this short teaser clip -- my favorite of them all. It's so condensed and powerful that I was immediately smitten and in love with Lana Del Rey's "Young and Beautiful." I may or may not have listened to her song on repeat (and maybe cried a little) for a slightly embarrassing period of time, while knee-deep re-reading the novel. I confess I have high, high hopes and want the film to deliver! Happy weekend!

The Boths and Neithers

Wednesday, May 8, 2013

These words are everything. A big, fat, unwanted curveball was thrown my way this week. And I'm seriously hitting that cumbersome thing out of the park and my life, stat. As previously confessed, I'm painfully aware that I'm continually learning, and sometimes failing, with the process of letting go. That heart sure remembers lots of things. Unfortunately, this process is just that -- a process that cannot be hurried, rushed, forced, or faked. It will find us out eventually. But we can only keep trying, keep going, upward, onward, and over. E.E. is really good with this stuff and I love every bit. "The truthful liars, the false fair friends, the boths and neithers, the tall bigger really." That is some big stuff, the true stuff, the hard stuff. And that, is precisely why we need to them go. Boom.

Grumpy Cat

Friday, May 3, 2013

I think we could all use a little Grumpy Cat in our lives. I'm especially loving this Van Gogh inspired print. Just brilliant! I think it really brings out his eyes. And might make our kitties a little jealous if it was hanging on our walls. Of course, they think they are the fairest of them all. Happy weekend!

The Trouble With My Mouth

Thursday, May 2, 2013

There is trouble with my mouth. I sometimes have a special knack for saying the worst thing at the worst time. Or saying things I don't mean. Or saying things I felt only during a particularly heated or stressed moment. So convenient. Sadly, I think it's my specialty. My husband gently tries to tell me that sometimes, I can escalate situations. What? Never! And turn them from bad to worse to the worst in seconds flat. Oops. It's a terrible talent and I'm really trying to keep it hidden -- within the deepest, deepest dark of my sub, sub, subconscious to never arise again. Here's to hoping and doing.

The problem is, while feelings may be fleeting, words stick. They stay. No matter how we wish them away or play "let's start over," they still hang in the air. Mothers and grandmothers have been telling us for years to keep our mouths s-h-u-t if we have nothing nice to say. But they also say to speak the truth, and what to do if the truth isn't nice? I guess the "be still and silent" rule applies here. Well, I failed miserably, you guys. And it seems that I sometimes let my little self get in the way of some things. If there is a foot to insert into a mouth, I will find it. And yell not-so-nice things to a certain snotty someone in a parking lot. In front of people I admire and love. Maybe or maybe not. Oof.
